Rawfeeding
All of our dogs are fed a raw food diet, which consist in part of raw chicken, turkey, fish, beef, pork, venison, eggs, and rabbit when it is available. Bone included, and in Prey Model fashion. Bone is absolutely essential in a raw food diet. I do not however, feed "cut bones", such as those found in pork chops or steaks. A raw food diet is not complete without organ meat, consisting of beef and chicken liver, gizzards, beef heart, tripe, and kidney. 80 % of our dogs diet is meat 10% is bone 10% is organ meat with 1/2 of that being liver ADULT DOGS As a general rule an adult dog will eat 2-3% of his/her "ideal" body weight. This amount is increased or decrease depending on each dog and how they are utilizing the food.. PUPPIES Puppies are usually fed 5-7% of their "current" body weight or 2-3% of their "projected" adult body weight. This amount is divided up into 2-3 feedings per day until the puppy is about 6 months old, at which time will will decrease the amount of feedings to 1-2 times per day. During weaning we do grind up chicken wings, and mix with ground turkey or chicken to make sure that each puppy is getting the calorie intake that he/she needs. During this time we are also giving them whole chicken wings, that they can carry, chew, tug, and eat. They think these wings are great prizes and will carry them with heads held high. As the puppy grows we will slowly introduce different types of muscle and organ meat, until the puppy is enjoying a variety of foods. By the time puppies go to their new homes they are eating whole wings and sometimes chicken leg quarters. It doesn't take them long to love and master their whole foods.
